A big thank you!
This is a letter to Barbara from the 2000 SEAT Fantasy Rally winners Richard & Sarah Haycox, thanking her for being their hostess during their prizewinning trip to Finland. Pictured below are Richard and Sarah with Barbara, SEAT Sport Director Jaime Puig, and President Vincente Aguilera.
Dear Barbara and Paul,
To just say thank you does not seem enough. When you return home, the whole thing sinks in and you realise what a memorable trip it was, especially after watching the highlights on Eurosport. The holiday was well above our expectations and some! The Rallying action was spectacular, the Finnish people friendly and chatty, even if most were men!! The sunshine was a refreshing change from the UK as well as the short sharp shower with hail stones thrown in to make us feel at home.
Even though I risked leaving my coat in the car, a good soaking made us laugh, especially Barbara. The meals were a great variety and tasty, and the wine expensive (sorry Paul, it was Fred!!), and I mustn't forget the sausages. The SEAT team were very welcoming and the team lunch was excellent, more sausages!!!!
I know Sarah and I will not forget this experience. Compared to the image of F1 from TV and motorsport magazines, the World Championship Rallying stars and teams are so approachable and down to earth. For me to meet the rallying stars I've watched for years is unforgetable. A very big thankyou to Barbara for this. The atmosphere in Jyvaskyla the night before and after the Rally was friendly and drunken, a marvellous combination. It certainly does live up to its reputation for being one of the best Rallies of the championship.
Both drivers, co-driver and support teams were great fun. As an ex-rally driver the roads do live up to their reputation and fuelled the fire that still burns within. My blood is still boiling and the adrenalin flowing even a day later. Help, I feel an overdraft coming on! But seriously, we cannot thanks those involved enough, especially Barbara and Paul for being so friendly and fun to be with. The passes worked a treat to gain us access to parking near the stages and the sausage tents. Only a helicopter would have been better. Next year?
The souvenir T-shirts and baseball caps will be a reminder of the holiday with a difference. We both feel we have gained a few more friends. Please keep in touch if you can.
Best regards
Richard and Sarah Haycox
